Apple always finds a way to impress consumers throughout the world by releasing products which are of great quality and packed with outstanding features.
When Apple announced the iPad Air 2 we didn’t know how else they could improve the first iPad Air, which was arguably the best tablet we’ve ever seen. So what makes the new iPad Air 2 special? In this Apple iPad Air 2 review we put this uber tablet under the microscope.
The iPad Air 2 may look similar to the older iPad, but don’t let looks fool you, it is incredibly light and thin. With a thickness of 6.1 millimetres, it is undoubtedly the thinnest tablet available in the market today and it only weighs 0.96 pounds. The anodized aluminum unibody also makes the product feel more durable compared to other tablets that are housed in plastic. The iPad Air 2 is available in three metallic finishes – silver, space grey and gold.
Besides being the thinnest tablet ever produced, the iPad Air 2 now features Apple’s Touch ID technology that provides better security and convenience for all users. Touch ID is Apple’s fingerprint scanner, which allows users to instantly unlock their device and access secure apps with just one touch on the home button.
The 9.7-inch Retina display features a resolution of 2048 x 1536 with 264 pixels per inch and unlike other tablets, the internal layers of the screen are fused and laminated together which makes images sharper and more vibrant. The anti-reflective coating reduces glare by 56 percent which makes viewing content indoors or outdoors a pleasure.
The iPad Air 2 has an improved 8-megapixel rear iSight camera that captures images in 3265 x 2448 native resolution and 1080p HD videos. The A8X image signal processor chip provides improved face-detection, better noise reduction and sharper images. The camera produce stunning photos and videos. It has great features such as the ability to shoot 120 frames-per-second slo-mo videos and time-lapse videos. The Air 2’s camera also features exposure control, burst mode, timer mode and high-resolution panorama.
Said to be the fastest and most powerful iPad ever, the 64-bit A8X processor has a tri-core CPU running at 1.5GHz and offers 2GB of RAM. Of all the tablets we’ve tested, the iPad Air 2 has been the most powerful and fastest to date. The graphics are also top-notch which make videos a treat to watch and graphic-heavy games more enticing to play. The battery is said to last to up to 10 hours so we put it to the test by using the device continuously until the battery died – and the results were impressive. With heavy use, the battery lasted for more than 9 hours, which is longer than most tablets.
VALUE AND VERDICT
We rarely use this word to describe a product, but the Apple iPad 2 is perfect. It is undeniably the best tablet we’ve had our hands on, providing the best combination of form and function, thanks to its remarkably thin design and astonishing performance. Although the price might be a little steep, you really get what you pay for which makes the product really worth it. We highly recommend the iPad Air 2 and give it a rating of 10 out of 10.
